RIVERHEAD RACEWAY TO CELEBRATE I LOVE AMERICA NIGHT WITH FIREWORKS & DEMO SATURDAY, SUMMER SHOWDOWN ENDURO SUNDAY
Bob Finan PR
A busy weekend of racing is planned for this coming weekend Saturday August 11th and Sunday August 12th at Riverhead Raceway as the 2018 season hits the home stretch at the historic quarter mile speed plant. Saturday evening on Donaldson's VW-Subaru night the track will celebrate I Love America night with a Fireworks extravaganza, 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby & Kids Big Wheel race. Six NASCAR Whelen All American Series events are planned for Saturday as well. Then Sunday afternoon the Summer Showdown Enduro program will be presented with the 2nd annual Laura Zegel Memorial 55 Street Stock event headlining the show.
2018 marks the 30th consecutive year that Sayville, L.I. based Donaldson's VW-Subaru has provided Riverhead Raceway with a pace car. Bill Donaldson and sales manager Steve Fulco are expected to present all Saturday night feature winners with a Donaldson's VW-Subrau trophy. The I Love America night celebration will again find Bay Fireworks entertaining young and old alike with another pyrotechnic masterpiece lighting up the night sky. The 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby daredevils will be primed for another hard hitting contest which will be the first of two in an 11 day span as they'll also be part of the Wednesday night special at the track August 22nd. The children will get their second chance of the season to show their skills in a Big Wheel Race with the winner of the race getting to keep the winning Big Wheel.
Headlining the stock car portion of the show are the NASCAR Modifieds who are set to go to post in a 40-lap main with the Late Models, Eagle Auto Mall Crate Modifieds, Super Pro Trucks and INEX Legend Race Cars all in action. Also on the card is the first ever Gut & Go Chain race a race that fins two cars chained together with the front car having no brakes which forces the trailing car to do all the braking for the team. It is a wild contest where anything can and usually does occur.
Sunday afternoon racing picks right back up with the Summer Showdown program and a full slate of Enduro racing. The 55-lap Laura Zegel Memorial, a very special race for a very special lady will again go a 55-lap distance and pay the race winner a minimum of $555. Added bonus and lap money raised could drive that figure higher. Last year Greg Harris of Riverhead won the 55-lapper in a very spirited drive from deep in the field to score an emotional victory. Harris would go on to win the 2017 Street Stock championship.
Completing the Summer Showdown card are the Mini Stocks, Truck Enduro, 8-Cylinder Enduro, Gut & Go 4/6-Cylinder Enduro and a Mini 8 race.
