After losing an unprecedented amount of the 2018 schedule in just the first three months of the season with six rain outs Riverhead Raceway owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz announced a historically busy month of August with seven race programs planned. The hectic month will start with Saturday night's NASCAR Whelen All American Series program featuring a School Bus Demolition Derby. Among the seven dates are two Wednesday night specials August 22nd and August 29th, the latter dubbed the "Back To School Bash" featuring a Monster Truck Night of Destruction.
The energetic slate of events debuts Saturday with the School Bus Demolition Derby that was washed out on July 21st taking center stage. The NASCAR Modifieds will go to post in a 50-lap main event as the 2018 championship chase enters it's final two month of competition. The Eagle Auto Mall Crate Modifieds, Figure Eights, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and a Gut & Go 4/6-Cylinder Enduro complete the action. The vintage cars of LIVARS will make their 5th start of the season on August 4th.
The second week of the month features a doubleheader weekend of racing at the Route 58 quarter mile with the annual I Love American Night set for Saturday evening August 11th complete with another Fireworks extravaganza. The second Kids Big Wheel Race and a 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby will also be presented along with 7 divisions of NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing. The very next afternoon Sunday August 12th the Summer Showdown Enduro program will unfold featuring the 2nd annual Laura Zegel Memorial 55 Street Stock race worth $555 to the winner.
The Saturday night August 18th program kicks off a stretch of 4 race dates in 11 days with a 50-lap Late Model event highlighting the race card with seven other classes in action for the night.
August 22nd will feature the second Wednesday Night NASCAR special with the NASCAR Modifieds racing in Twin 50 feature events that could go a long way in determining the 2018 champion. The Blunderbusts and INEX Legend Race Cars will be in action and the mid week event will conclude with a 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby believed to be the first weekday Demo in the 68-year history of the track.
The season's second School Bus Demolition Derby will unfold Saturday August 25th and will share the spotlight with a 50-lap event for the Eagle Auto Mall Crate Modifieds plus five divisions of NASCAR stock car racing. With nothing left to lose the School Bus Demo daredevils will let it all hang out.
The entertaining month of racing will conclude in spectacular fashion Wednesday night with the Back To School Bash featuring a Monster Truck Night of Destruction. Riverhead raceway management and KSR Motorsports officials have team up to present a line up of Monster Trucks including XDP, Storm Damage, Hurricane Force and Zombie. With Long island schools opening up one week later the kids are sure to enjoy one last bash before returning to class. The Late Models will compete in Twin 50's and be joined by the Bluderbusts and Street Stocks on the 29th.
