.. School Bus Demolition Derby Headlines Cody's BBQ & Grill Night At Riverhead Raceway Saturday June 30th by Bob FInan Things
will be sizzling Saturday evening June 30th at Barbara & Jim Cromarty's
Riverhead Raceway as it will be Cody's BBQ & Grill night for the NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series that will feature a program concluding with a
Full Size School Bus Demolition Derby. The School Bus Demo along with
free Amusement Rides for the children are a way for the historic race
track to help Long Island's youth celebrate the end of another school
year.Cody BBQ & Grill has quickly become Long Island's leading Country Music venue featuring the best BBQ on the Island and will sponsor all four NASCAR feature events on the evening led by the 35-lap NASCAR Modified contest. The "World Famous" Figure Eight stock cars will also be in action and be joined by the Chargers and Super Pro Trucks. Cody's BBQ & Grill will set-up a display in the turn three grandstand area which will include their mechanical bull and other great attractions. One of the free Amusement Rides for the children will also be located right next to the Cody's display. On Thursday night, June 28th, in advance of the Cody's night at Riverhead Raceway the weekly Cruise Night will feature some Riverhead Raceway race cars. Part of that Cruise Night unfolds right behind Cody' BBQ & Grill and all Riverhead Raceway fans are encouraged to come on out and check it out. Aside from the door handle to door handle NASCAR stock car action set for June 30th, a bone-jarring, bus destroying School Bus Demolition Derby will close out the race card. Not only is the sight of 13-ton School Buses coming together something to behold but so is the thunderous explosion that permeates through the air as both young and old alike roar with approval. Michael "Cheesebox" Rommeney and Dennis "The Menace" Scott are just two veterans expected to compete. The event will be held in memory of past School Bus Demolition Derby star Donnie Fox of Flanders who recently passed away from injuries he suffered in a motor vehicle accident. It is hoped that "Don Don's" Bus will be on hand for the children he loved to entertain. Just prior to the School Bus Demolition Derby the 8-Cylinder Enduro drivers will strut their stuff with most recent winners Donald "Woot" Lawrence of Southampton and Jim Laird. Jr. of Islip hoping to score a repeat win after their Father's Day Enduro victories. Time Trials for the NASCAR Modifieds will start at 5:30 pm with the Cody's BBQ & Grill night feature events going green at 6:00 pm.
