Heavy Rain Postpones Riverhead 200 NASCAR WMT Event To September 15th, Shuffles Late Season Schedule by Bob FInan Just as the haulers began to enter the Riverhead Raceway pit area Saturday morning for the Riverhead 200 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event a severe thunderstorm erupted dropping an estimated two to three inches of rain on the facility in a short amount of time forcing Barbara & Jim Cromarty along with Chad Little of the WMT to postpone the event to Saturday September 15th. The sudden storm flooded nearly the entire infield, as well as the access road to the track while a section of billboards in turn two were also blown down. After it was evident that running the race would be impossible the Cromarty's and Chad Little began to search for a suitable make-up date and at the conclusion of that meeting it was decided Saturday September 15th would be best. When the Riverhead 200 is run on September 15th it will be the latest that a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event has ever been presented at Riverhead Raceway since the inception of the tour in 1985. Joining the Riverhead 200 on the make-up date will be the Blunderbust and Legend Race Cars. The 30 lap Charger event with time trials will be added to this coming Saturday, August 4th. The Miller Lite National Demolition Derby championship and the entire race program set for September 15th will now move to the following Saturday September 22nd, while the stand alone Enduro race card set for September 22nd will now move back a week to Saturday September 29th, with a Sunday September 30th rain date. In essence the rain-out this past Saturday extends the 2012 Riverhead Raceway season by a week. "It's been crazy year weather wise" the Cromarty's reflected in their office early Saturday afternoon, "with the extreme heat and wild storms that come with them it's unlike anything we've seen over the years".
