.. Riverhead Raceway Scheduling Change Moves Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Event Back To Saturday September 22nd by Bob FInan For
the first time in racing history a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race has
had an impact on a Demolition Derby. When the July 28th Riverhead 200
WMT was rained out at Riverhead Raceway a rain date of September 15th
was chosen by Barbara & Jim Cromarty along with NASCAR. That date was
originally the date for the annual $1,500 to win National Demolition
Derby Championship on Miller Lite night but with that July rainout that
event will now be held on Saturday September 22nd.Bob "The Killer Bee" Benison of Lindenhurst is the defending National Demolition Derby champion and while Bob has not competed yet in his Monster's Recycling machines in 2012 bet on the former World Champion being in the house going after the $1,500 in cash! Look perhaps also for his brother-in-law Tom "The Mad Hatter" Kilkenny of Babylon also to make his first start of the year, Tom took the crown in 2010. The 2012 Demolition Derby action at Riverhead has sen many new faces competing with many making their way to the winner's circle. Brian Fass of Holbrook won an early season Demo in just his first start, while this past week Michael Suk of Patchogue took Judge's Choice in a 4-Cylinder contest. Rich & Andrew Fowler of Wantagh, Jason Savoy of Lake Panamoka, Matt Mulqueen of Levittown, "Pistol" Pete Mikos of Ronkonkoma along with newcomers the Provenzano family of Patchogue, Marty and Frank will all be gunning after the $1,500 to win. One very attractive aspect to the Miler Lite National Demolition Derby Championship at Riverhead Raceway is the fact there are no qualifying heats to endure prior to going to the final. Drivers can enter the battle for the big prize with a fresh and unscathed car in their quest to become the National Demolition Derby Champion! Drivers from North Carolina, New Jersey and from New England have come to Long Island and hopefully they will do so again on September 22nd. For rules and entry blanks for the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Championship please visit www.riverheadraceway.com or call the track office from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm Monday through Friday at 631-842-RACE. |
