Grand Enduro champion David Antos of Lindenhurst scored his first win of
2012 when he topped the 50-lap Grand Enduro Sunday afternoon at
Riverhead Raceway, while Greg Harris of Riverhead notched his first
career win at his home track in the 50-lap 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro.
Antos raced his way by Kevin McCarthy on lap 3 of the Grand Enduro to
move out front with McCarthy then giving chase over the following 16
laps before he was passed for second on the 21st lap by Steve Mastro,
who made an inside move in turn three to make the pass/ Once to second
Mastro at first stayed with the race leader but as the contest wore on
Mastro soon
found
himself in a fight for second with James Charrier who raced his way to
third after starting 17th. That battle for second was music to the ears
of David Antos who then pulled away in his G&R Performance Chevy to
collect his second career victory. Steve Mastro of Pt. Jefferson was
runner-up in the N.Y. Auto Giant Chevy with James Charrier of Shirley
third in the Clear Beer Draft Chevy.
Greg Harris of Riverhead had won an Enduro race off Long Island a couple
of years ago but never collected a win at his home track until this past
Sunday when he won the 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro. Harris moved right our
front
at the throw of the green and was chased early on by Ken Hyde Jr. and
Russ Jansen early on. Don Nelson would soon come to second and over the
remainder of the race he'd try and track down Harris who built up a nice
lead. Every time Nelson seemed to be gaining ground on Harris lapped
traffic would get in the way and that was all Greg Harris in the SGS
Stone Works entry would need to collect the popular win. Don Nelson Jr.
of Rocky Point would survive a late race battle with Robin Vollmoeller
of Riverhead to claim second in the Repo Joe Chevy, with Vollmoeller
third in the Spit's Speed Shop Chevy.
Anthony Pizzo of Lake Ronkonkoma scored a clean sweep in
the
two 8-Cylinder Enduro races winning both. Pizzo in the United Exhaust
Shop Caprice won a 75-lap contest over Dege Russell of Rocky Point in
the Kelly Russell Realty Chevy and Dominic Ranieri of E. Northport in
his Westhampton Chevy. In the 40-lap nightcap Pizzo bested Ranieri and
Jess Martines of Shirley.
Steve "The Pitbull" Trimboli of Freeport in convincing fashion won the
60-lap 4/6-Cylinder Car Enduro as he dominated the race in his Pitbull
Motors Mercedes Benz. George Davis of Patchogue was runner-up in the
Sign Design racer while Greg Berkowitz of Merrick was third in the LI
Jam machine.
