.. National Demolition Derby Champion Highlights Miller Lite Night At Riverhead Raceway Saturday September 22nd by Bob FInan Saturday
evening September 22nd is going to be a night to remember at the famed
quarter mile oval as promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty present the
National Demolition Derby Championship on Miller Lite night with the
winner of that event walking away with $1,500. Six great feature events
will precede the National Demolition Derby Championship including a
50-lap Late Model event as well a Grand Enduro.Moved back a week later than originally planned due to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour rain-out on July 28th being made-up September 15th, local Demolition Derby teams have gotten an extra week to prepare for what they call the "granddaddy" of Demolition Derby events. 2012 Riverhead Raceway Demolition Derby track champion Andrew Fowler of Wantagh and his father Richard are gearing up for the $1,500 to win prize. Also preparing cars in the Timmy's Towing stable are Matt Mulqueen and Timmy Mulqueen of Levittown, with the Mulqueen team rumored to be bringing as many as eight cars! Former World Demolition Derby Champion "The Killer Bee" Bob Benison of Lindenhurst is the defending National Demolition Derby champion and it's expected that he along with his brother-in-law Tom "The Mad Hatter" Kilkenny of Babylon who won this event in 2010 are ready to battle. Jason Savoy of Lake Panamoka who is also out of the Monster's Recycling stables will also be among those to watch. "Pistol" Pete Mikos of Lake Ronkonkoma in his "Orange Crush" is expected to be on hand as are the Provenzano Team of Marty & Frank Provenzano along with Michael Suk & Louie Gardella of Patchogue. Others expected to enter are Thaddeus Lattanzio of Eastport, Ed Primavera of Wading River and rumor also has former World Champion Eugene Malverty of Gibson, Florida joining the two going to his native Long Island. Jimmy Mann of Raynham, Ma has also indicated he might make a road trip to Riverhead on the 22nd. With no track points to be concerned about and extra purse money on the line there will be some good old school stock car racing on tap for the Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks. All five classes, including the Figure Eights will qualify through time on the oval for their respective feature events. The Late Model feature will go a distance of 50-laps, while the Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Truck will go for 20 circuits for some extra loot. The Figure Eight feature will be 20-laps in distance. The Grand Enduro feature will also be 50-laps and their starting line-up as always will be determined by luck of the draw as they enter the pit area. Feature event racing will start at 5:30 for Miller Lite night September 22nd and be preceded by qualifying.
