Chamber Of Commerce To Honor Riverhead Raceway's Barbara & Jim Cromarty With 2012 Business Of The Year December 6th by Bob Finan Riverhead Raceway owners and promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty will be honored by the Riverhead Chamber of Commerce on Thursday evening December 6th as the Chamber's 2012 Business of the Year. The Cromarty's have owned and operated the historic 64-year old quarter mile race track on Route 58 since 1985 and have been very active in the local community. The presentation of the Business of the Year Award to Barbara & Jim Cromarty will take place during the Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner at the beautiful Vineyard Caterers in Jamesport on December 6th from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Unfortunately Barbara & Jim have a long standing prior commitment to be in Charlotte, NC that evening to attend the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Champion's Celebration and won't be able to attend the Chamber of Commerce dinner. However a full table of NASCAR Officials from Riverhead Raceway will be in attendance to enjoy this very special award and evening with long time track announcer/public relations director Bob Finan accepting the Business of the Year Award on the Cromarty's behalf. Chamber officials are also trying to arrange a "skype" interview with the Cromarty's at that time. The Business of the Year award concludes another very active year for Barbara & Jim in the community, in June Riverhead Raceway hosted a NASCAR Green Initiative program on June 16th where NASCAR donated 100 trees to the track for donation to a cause of the track's choice. The Cromarty's, in turn donated those trees to the Town of Riverhead for placement at a location of the Town's choice. The Cromarty's, who are animal lovers, were delighted that some of the trees went to the Riverhead Animal Shelter where a tree planting ceremony took place on September 28th. Riverhead Raceway will start its 64th season of stock car racing with a double header weekend Saturday May 4th, 2013 and Sunday May 5th, 2013.
